Dental Implants in Grand Blanc MI

Get teeth that look and feel like your natural teeth. Dental implants are an excellent option if you have lost one or more teeth due to injury or disease. Our dental implant dentist can also do full-mouth teeth implants.

What is a dental implant?

A tooth implant is a synthetic tooth root in the shape of a post that is surgically implanted into the jawbone. The “root” is made of titanium, a metal well-suited for pairing with bone. A replacement tooth is then fixed to the post. These teeth look and feel like your natural teeth.

What is the cost of dental implants?

The cost of dental implants depend on the amount of teeth that you need to replace, along with the location of those teeth. Most insurance plans require you to choose the least expensive treatment, and so don’t cover dental implants. However, contact us and we can discuss the cost of your needs.

Are you a good candidate for dental implants?

The ideal candidate for dental implants is a non-smoker with good oral health. Good candidates have a sufficient amount of bone in the jaw and healthy gums

Autogenous Bone Grafting

Sometimes the ideal areas for dental implants do not have the bone quality to support implants. In cases like this, bone can be “borrowed” from other parts of your mouth and grafted in the places needed. Often, the area of bone to be grafted is from the jaw in the place where your wisdom teeth used to be.

Computer-Enhanced Treatment Planning

Special computer software allows us to create a 3-D dental CT scan to estimate bone quality, quantity and location. This gives your dental implant dentist the best understanding of where your dental implants should be placed. Knowing where your implants should be placed will give you the best outcome possible.

Implant Site Development

When infection requires a tooth to be removed, it isn’t uncommon for bone to have been lost around that tooth. Various types of bone grafting can be done at the same time the tooth is removed. This will facilitate a dental implant at a later date.

Sinus Lift Augmentation

If you’ve lost the upper back teeth, you may have to deal with sinus enlargement. This enlargement can cause difficulty with dental implants, since they need to be surrounded by solid bone. A sinus lift augmentation/graft is a surgical procedure that restores the sinus cavity to its original size, and replaces the bone that has been lost as a result of the enlarged sinus. This new bone graft usually takes nine to twelve months to heal before the implants can be placed into grafted bone.

Implant Maintenance

Once your dental implants are in place, it is crucial to keep the area clean and free of infection. Dental implants can accumulate plaque and tartar just as your natural teeth. A professional cleaning schedule will be necessary to keep your dental implants healthy.

Single or Multiple Implants

Implants are versatile. If you are only missing one tooth, one implant plus one replacement tooth will do the trick. If you are missing several teeth in a row, a few strategically placed implants can support a permanent bridge (a set of replacement teeth). Similarly, if you have lost all of your teeth, a full bridge or full denture can be permanently fixed in your mouth with a strategic number of implants.

Advantages Over Dentures or Bridges

Conventional bridges and dentures are not fixed to the bone, and can therefore be unstable. This can make it difficult to eat or smile with confidence. Implants not only look more natural, but feel and act more like normal teeth, with a stronger biting force. And because they don't directly rely on neighboring teeth for support, implants don't compromise the health of your natural teeth. In fact, bridges are only expected to last seven to ten years, even less with root canals, whereas implants will typically last a lifetime.

Post-Treatment Care

Consider your replacement teeth to be the same as natural teeth. They require the same daily brushing and flossing, and the same amount of regular checkups. Just like your natural teeth, the better you take care of your replacements, the longer they will last.
